A Fiber Trends Pattern by Lily M. Chin. To function properly, a bag must have room at the bottom to expand when filled with things. Flat envelopes will not do. The easy solution is to begin with a strip for the bottom, then pick up sts around and work upwards. The length of the strip, as well as the overall height of the body of the bag determines the size. Sizes: Cell Phone/Eyeglass Holder - about 4½" wide x 7½" high. Purse - about 9" wide x 7" high. Tote - about 18" wide x 15" high. Yarn Requirements: Worsted-weight mercerized cotton. We used 74 (222, 666) yds of Tahki’s Cotton Classic II (74 yds/ 50g ball). 74 yds of contrast color will trim all bags. A 7/8" button for Cell Phone/Eyeglass Holder and for Purse. Crochet Hook: Size G (4.0 mm). You may use any size hook that is appropriate for your yarn, but aim for a firm, non-stretchy gauge, using perhaps a size or two smaller hook than what the yarn would normally call for. Gauge: 8 sc and 9 rows = 2"(5 cm); 1 Scallop St = 1½" (3.75 cm).
